ABSTRAK
Breast cancer is an abnormal, rapid, and uncontrollable growth of cells which are
found in the breast tissues. One of the change is the change of body image which
causes the patient to feel depressed. Bad body image influences the response to
environment, including health service so that cognitive attempts and individual
behavior, which is called coping, are needed in order to cope the stressor. The
objective of the study was to identify the correlation between body image and
coping of breast cancer patients at the H. Adam Malik Central Hospital, Medan
with descriptive correlation design. The data were gathered from May 6 to July 6,
2013 using Likert Scale. The Samples were 28 breast cancer patients, using
accidental sampling technique. Questiannaires about Body Image Scales was used
to measure body image with the reliability 0.7 and questionnaires about BRIEF
COPE was used to measure the coping of breast cancer patients with the reliability
of 0.8. In the data analysis, using Spearman, it was found there was no significant
correlation between body image and the coping of breast cancer patients with p
value = 0.8 (p>0.05). Based in the result of the study, it is recommended that the
future studies should conduct more and deeper studies on some factors which
influence body image and the coping of breast cancer patients.

Abstrak
Kanker payudara adalah pertumbuhan abnormal, cepat dan tidak
terkendali dari sel-sel yang terdapat pada jaringan payudara. Salah satu
perubahan yang ditimbulkan adalah perubahan citra tubuh yang
menjadi stresor bagi penderita. Citra tubuh yang buruk mempengaruhi
respon terhadap lingkungan termasuk pelayanan kesehatan sehingga
dibutuhkan usaha-usaha kognitif maupun perilaku dari individu yang
disebut koping untuk mengatasi stressor tersebut. Penelitian ini
bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi hubungan citra tubuh dengan koping
pasien kanker payudara di Rumah sakit Umum Pusat Haji adam Malik
Medan dengan desain deskriptif korelasi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan
pada tanggal 6 Mei - 6 Juli 2013 yang melibatkan 28 orang pasien
kanker payudara dengan metode pengambilan sampel accidental
sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan 2 kuisioner berskala
Likert. Kuisioner Body Images Scale untuk mengukur citra tubuh
dengan reliabilitas 0,7 dan kuisioner BRIEF COPE untuk mengukur
koping dengan relialibilitas 0,8. Analisa data menggunakan Spearman
ditemukan tidak terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara citra tubuh
dengan koping pasien kanker payudara dengan p value=0.8(p>0.05).
Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut perlu dilakukan penelitian lebih
lanjut dan lebih mendalam tentang faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi
citra tubuh dan koping pasien kanker payudara.
