INTRODUCTION : BAHASA INGGRIS 4 Pollution and environment is design to help the students at this level to improve their vocabularies, understanding about English Law and they will know certain terms about Pollution and environment in English . The students will study how to improve the vocabularies about the law, war, peace, Pollution and environment The students are supposed to do some exercises which based on the reading comprehension, put the story into the correct order, fill the gap with the suitable words and read short story, then write down the respond to the question based on the student’s knowledge of the law in our country. The material is reading comprehension, it is about Pollution and environment The need oriented aspects of the process of learning taken from the situation in the country. The cultural context of Indonesia enhance oral communication because the use of the language is forced by situation and within the Indonesian environment. Law students can express their idea more freely when the current issues are discussed about the law or other related topics than theme which are out of their scope. The students can participate more actively in some discussions in the learning process such as: some current issues in the country, Pollution and environment or any other current issues will be discussed in the classroom. The current issues which have been discussed will increase the students’ initiative, creativity and analytical capability B.THE AIMS OF THE LECTURER The aims of the materials are hoped to make the students understand about vocabularies that connect Pollution and environment The use of vocabularies in reading comprehension is intended to improve their understanding about Law and order in reading comprehension. Reading comprehension will be shown to make the students skimming and scanning the material and they will understand the use of certain vocabularies about Pollution and environment . The students will be instructed to make the sentence or simple sentence on the screen. After the learning process the students are hoped to be able to: To write and to answer the question which based on the reading comprehension about Pollution and environment To improve their vocabularies about Pollution and environment To fill the gaps with the suitable word Pollution and environment C.MATERIAL DESCRIPTION A. Important Definitions People are more worried about the environment (= the air, water, and land around us) as a result of the harmful (=dangerous / damaging) effects of human activity. Some of these activities cause pollution (= dirty air, land and water) and some are destroying the environment (= damaging it so badly that soon parts will not exist). Here are some of the problems. The ozone layer: a layer of gases which stop harmful radiation from the sun reaching the earth; recent research shows that there is now a hole in parts of the ozone layer. Global warming: an increase in world temperature caused by an increase in carbon dioxide. Acid rain: rain that contains dangerous chemicals; this is caused by smoke from factories. B.THE GREENS Because of these problems, there are many groups of people whose aims is conversation (= the protection of natural things, e.g. plants and animals) They are often referred to as greens, e.g. “ Greenpeace” and “friends of the earth” COMMON CAUSES OF DAMAGE Smoke from factories Car exhaust fumes Dumping industrial waste Aerosol cans. Some of these contain CFCs which can damage the ozone layer Cutting down tropical rainforest How can we help? Don’t throw away bottles, newspaper, etc. Take them to a battle bank or newspaper bank, and then they can be recycled Plant more trees Don’t waste resources, e.g water, gas. Try to save them. Note: a resources is valuable possession. There are natural resources, e.g. water or gold; and human resources, e.g. knowledge and skills.
