Yaman Akira Mizuta MEDCOENERGI ACTIVELY CARRIES ON EXPLORATION DRILLING PROGRAM TO DISCOVER MORE OIL AND GAS RESERVES Jakarta, Wednesday, 18 September 2013 - PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk (the “Company”/”MedcoEnergi”) is pleased to announce its exploration activity for 2013 and 2014 program. MedcoEnergi plans to drill 28 exploration wells in 2013 and 2014. The program consists of 11 wells in Indonesia and 17 wells in our international operations, namely Area 47 in Libya, Block 82, 83 and Block 9 Malik in Yemen. Up to September 2013, MedcoEnergi has completed five wells, for which two wells are in Indonesia (Matang-1 at Block A, Aceh and Bajul Besar-1 at Simenggaris Block, East Kalimantan) and three wells in overseas (Ras Nowmah South-1, Ras Nowmah North-1 and Sueda-1, all are in Block 9 Malik). Currently, one exploration wells is being drilled in Indonesia, i.e. Lagan Deep-1A in South Central Sumatra (SCS) Block, South Sumatra. Lagan Deep-1A well will try to prove extensive gas accumulation in Talang Akar formation. The discovery will provide additional gas reserves to supply the industry in South Sumatra area (MedcoEnergi currently supplies around 120 MMSCFD to South Sumatra gas market). Aside from Lagan Deep-1A, six wells are currently on the queue for rig spud-in by the remaining of this year, starting with: Salina-1 (Rimau Block), Arung-1 (SCS Block), Pastel (Tarakan Block), all are in Indonesia; and O2 Area 47 (Libya), Al Shamliah and Al Hedba Plateau-1 (both in Yemen). Since beginning of this year, MedcoEnergi has been actively carrying out the exploration activities both in Indonesia as well as in international. This is in line with the Company’s business strategy to focus on E&P business by means of increasing total reserves through exploration activities. The Company and its partners have allocated 2013 exploration budget for a total of around USD 120 million and up to July 2013 the realization has reached in the range of USD 50 million. The Company is targeting to gain additional resources approximately at 130 MMBOE (gross) from its exploration activities by the end of 2013. In Libya, as a compensation of the force majeure situation due to revolution, on 10 September 2013 the Company successfully obtained an additional period for the Exploration until September 2014. The compensation was granted beside the earlier approval for a two-year Appraisal Period extension to conduct appraisal program for the remaining discoveries in Area 47 alongside what was included in the commerciality approval in December 2011. A successful appraisal program will become the basis of Phase-2 development (as a reminder, the Phase-1 development which is currently in progress is to monetize 300 MMBOE recoverable reserves through a 50,000 BOPD oil plus 50 MMcfd gas production facilities development). The Company has also resumed its operation at field since early this year and is currently conducting one well testing for B2 well that was halted due to the revolution on 17 February 2011. In Indonesia, MedcoEnergi has successfully made a gas discovery from Matang-1 well in Block A PSC Aceh in May 2013. The testing concluded gas at a rate of 25 MMSCFD with low H2S content and 15% CO2. A follow up plan is carried out until the end of 2013 to define this discovery better. The exploration and appraisal drilling will continue with 16 more wells in 2014, comprising of six wells in Indonesia and 10 wells overseas. The 2014 total budget for this program is estimated approximately at USD 190 million (gross). Lukman Mahfoedz commented that “Our strategy focus remains at E&P business, including active exploration to discover more hydrocarbons. Despite the current issues of exploration in Indonesia, particularly in land acquisition and permitting process, our Company steadily continues to do more exploration wells. Next year, the Company starts drilling one exploration well in Senoro-Toili Block to add gas reserves that can be monetized as Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) or pipelined gas. This is the addition to the planned five wells in other areas in Indonesia. MedcoEnergi akan mengebor 28 sumur eksplorasi sepanjang 2013 dan 2014. Program ini terdiri dari 11 sumur di Indonesia dan 17 sumur di area operasi internasional, yaitu Area 47 di Libya, Blok 82, 83 dan Blok 9 Malik di Yaman. Sampai dengan September 2013, MedcoEnergi telah menyelesaikan lima sumur eksplorasi, yaitu dua sumur di Indonesia (Matang-1 di Blok A, Aceh dan Bajul Besar-1 di Blok Simenggaris, Kalimantan Timur) dan tiga sumur di luar negeri (Ras Nowmah South-1, Ras Nowmah North-1 dan Sueda-1, semua di Blok 9 Malik). Pada saat ini, satu sumur eksplorasi sedang dibor di Indonesia, yaitu Lagan Deep-1A di Blok South Central Sumatera (SCS), Sumatera Selatan. Sumur Lagan Deep-1A diharapkan dapat membuktikan akumulasi gas yang cukup besar pada formasi Talang Akar. Penemuan ini akan menambah cadangan gas untuk memasok kebutuhan energi di Sumatera Selatan (MedcoEnergi saat ini sudah memasok sekitar 120 MMSCF per hari kepada pengguna gas di Sumatra Selatan). Selain Lagan Deep1A, enam sumur saat ini sedang menunggu rig spud-in yang akan dilakukan dalam tahun 2013, dimulai dengan: Salina1 (Blok Rimau), Arung-1 (Blok SCS), Pastel (Blok Tarakan), semua berada di Indonesia, dan O2 di Area 47 (Libya), Al Shamliah dan Al Hedba Plateau-1 (keduanya di Yaman). Sejak awal tahun ini, MedcoEnergi secara aktif melaksanakan kegiatan eksplorasi baik di Indonesia maupun di luar negeri. Hal ini sejalan dengan strategi bisnis Perseroan untuk fokus pada bisnis Eksplorasi & Produksi (E&P), termasuk meningkatkan jumlah cadangan migas melalui kegiatan eksplorasi. Perseroan dan mitra-mitranya mengalokasikan anggaran eksplorasi tahun 2013 sekitar AS$ 120 juta dan sampai dengan Juli 2013 realisasi penggunaan anggaran telah mencapai di kisaran AS$ 50 juta. Perseroan berharap mendapatkan cadangan baru sejumlah 130 MMBOE (kotor) dari kegiatan eksplorasi pada akhir tahun 2013. Di Libya, sebagai kompensasi dari situasi force majeure akibat revolusi, pada 10 September 2013 MedcoEnergi berhasil memperoleh tambahan periode Eksplorasi sampai dengan September 2014. Kompensasi ini diberikan, di samping persetujuan perpanjangan dua tahun Periode Appraisal yang telah diperoleh sebelumnya untuk melaksanakan program appraisal terhadap temuan yang tersisa di Area 47, sebagai kelanjutan persetujuan komersialisasi yang diperoleh pada Desember 2011. Program Appraisal ini akan menjadi dasar pengembangan proyek Tahap-2 (sebagai informasi, pengembangan proyek Tahap-1 yang sedang berlangsung adalah untuk memonetisasi cadangan migas 300 MMBOE melalui pembangunan fasilitas produksi sebesar 50.000 BOPD minyak dan 50 MMcfd gas). Perseroan juga telah kembali beroperasi di lapangan sejak awal tahun ini dan sedang melakukan uji sumur pada sumur B2 yang sempat terhenti karena revolusi 17 Februari 2011. Di Indonesia, MedcoEnergi berhasil dengan penemuan gas dari Matang-1 di Blok A, Aceh pada bulan Mei 2013. Pengujian menyimpulkan temuan gas pada tingkat 25 MMSCF per hari dengan kandungan H2S rendah dan 15% CO2. Rencana tindak lanjut saat ini sedang dilakukan sampai akhir tahun 2013 untuk mendefinisikan penemuan ini lebih baik. Pengeboran eksplorasi dan appraisal akan terus dilakukan pada sejumlah lebih dari 16 sumur sepanjang tahun 2014, yang terdiri dari enam sumur di Indonesia dan 10 sumur di luar negeri. Tahun depan, MedcoEnergi akan melakukan pengeboran satu sumur eksplorasi di Blok Senoro-Toili untuk menambah cadangan gas yang dapat dimonetisasi sebagai Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) atau gas pipa. Sumur ini merupakan tambahan dari 5 sumur eksplorasi yang akan dibor di daerah lain di Indonesia. Sementara di luar negeri, kami akan mengebor empat sumur eksplorasi di Area 47 Libya dengan harapan dapat mengulang kesuksesan dalam penemuan cadangan minyak yang besar di sana."
