Children’s Education in Capital City, Phnom Penh o Public school is free of charge national wide. o Usually age 5 sent to kindergarten school (sometimes age 4), but general public school is not enough and put many students in one class, so parents who can afford, will send their child to private schools which have to pay for school free, for better learning, taking care of, and quality. For parents who can’t afford, they have to put their child in public school, however, sometimes their children are not allowed to because of full class so they have to send them to find school in province instead or delay the enrollment. o Primary School: Age 6-11, children go to grade 1 - 6. o Secondary School: Age 12-14, children go to grade 7-9. o Grade 9, all students must pass National Examination in order to go grade 10 o For students who failed the exam must repeat the class again next year o Grade 1-9, students learn all subjects Social and Science at school, both Public school and Private by following guideline—Education System from Moeys (Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports) o High School: age 15-17, students go to grade 10-12 o Grade 12, all students must pass National Examination in order to go University / College to study Bachelor Degree (12+4) o For students who failed the exam must repeat the class again next year or they can go to study Associate Degree (12 +2) or they can go to Vocational Training Centre to study skills for future career such as: mechanics, Air Con fixing, Motor fixing, Plumbing, Sewing... or skills related to agriculture o For students who succeed in Bachelor Degree, they can continue Master Degree related to their field (12 + 4 + 2) o Or they can study to be Doctors (12 + 7-8) During Covid-19 pandemic, Moeys announces each school to arrange online learning to help students keep learning as much as possible. For the upcoming opening school, Moeys still asks each school to prepare in advance for online class plus physical class to ensure the social distance is adhered.
