④ Firstly, Set up 2 pole rotator (AM2) in rotator rack (AMJ) and put in a permanent
magnet in magnetic pole rack (AM9). On top of it, fix large permanent magnetic
pole by tightening a fixing bolt. N pole and S pole of permanent circle magnet should
be placed in P1 and P5 respectively
⑤ Put in brush & holder H (AMH) into the slip ring of 2 pole armature
and check the
connection status between AC slip ring and brush and fix it.
⑥ Connect Load(bulb) and AC voltmeter/amperemeter from the connected output socket
of brush referring to the figure 4-6 and 4-7.
⑦ While not connecting the operation belt (AMN), try to rotate the 2-poles armature with
hand (Place fingers at the side of bobbin and turn). Check if AC galvanometer and
gradation of amperemeter moves and light bulb lights up.
(Use DC voltmeter : 5V, AC Voltmeter : 100mA,

⑧ Exchange the polarity of DC voltmeter and amperemeter’s input sockets (COM ↔ 5V,
COM ↔ 100mA) and quickly rotate the two-pole armature in a clockwise direction.
Check if gradation of DC voltmeter and amperemeter moves and bulb lights
up.Observe the ripples produced and compare the changes with that of⑦.
⑨ Set DC Voltmeter and Amperemeter to its default and connect drive motor and 2-pole
armature to pulley by using an drive belt.
⑩ Exchange bulb into 6[V] before running the drive motor and convert measuring sockets
of DC voltmeter/amperemeter into 10V/1A. Oscilloscope should be set at DC 5[Vpp]/10[ms].
⑪ Put the rotation direction of a drive motor at CCW and turn ON the module while
keeping the speed controller at its minimum speed. Slowly turn it in a clockwise
direction to increase the rotation speed and observe the ripples and output values

the extensions of magnetic poles as shown in the figure 6-9.
⑧ Refer to the figures 6-9 and 6-10 to set up compound motor circuit.
⑨ Set resistance value of field resistor to approximately 15 ~ 30[Ω]. Then, set the
resistance value of the starting resistor to the maximum value before turning on the
power supplier. Turn on the power supplier.
⑩ First make short of both terminals on starting resistor.
Measure the current and voltage.
Is = [A]
V = [V]
⑪ Turn off the power supplier and remove the wire(단락선) on the starting resistor.
Turn on the power supplier. This time, slowly decrease the resistance value of the
starting resistor to the minimum value.
⑫ Measure the current and voltage when it is at steady state.
Is = [A]
V = [V]
⑬ Increase and decrease the resistance value of field resistor and observe the rotating
speed of the motor.
⑭ Stop the motor, switch the Armature wiring of A and B, and restart the motor (Switch
the cords on compound motor graphics board on terminal T5 and T10). Why did the
rotating direction of the motor change?
⑮ When all the steps have been performed, turn off all the switches and remove the
connecting cords. Also, remove the equipments and accessories to the module cabinet
and the appropriate place on the table.

3. Precaution
Precaution
Ⅰ. Single-phase induction motor does not have maneuver torque so it
should use maneuver coil or main coil to make 2-Phase or connect condensor to
maneuver coil in series to create rotatory magnetic field and maneuver torque
Ⅱ. Condensor's maneuver motor has a large maneuver torque while Spilt-Phase
Motor has a weak one.
Ⅲ. Make sure not to exchange maneuver coil and main coil when setting
up field coil.

5. Procedure
① Understand the given problem and objective. Select equipments and accessories.
② Set up 3 Module and Spilt-Phase Motor Graphic Board on a practice board rack as shown
in Figure 6-24.
③ Set up field coil, magnetic pole and rotators in a yoke frame as shown in Figure 6-26.
Here, the distance between rotator and magnetic pole should be minimized.
Figure 6-26 Spilt-Phase Motor Assembly Drawing
④ Place Spilt-Phase Motor Graphic Board on socket hall of field coil.
⑤ Set up practice circuits as shown in Figure 6-24 and 6-25. Check the connection status of
each module and turn ON the Power supplier. Provide AC 50[V].
⑥ To test spilt-phase starting system, short-circuit between T5 and T6 of Spilt-phase motor
graphic board. (As mentioned previously, spilt-phase starting system as a weak maneuver
torque, so turn it little manually.)
⑦ About 75% of previous speed opens maneuver winding circuit by centrifugal force switch.
⑧ This time, to test condensor starting system, connect T5, T6 to condensor C1 2.5 [ ㎌ ]
and run it. Compared to the procedure ⑥, does it work well?
⑨ Exchange condensor C1 2.5[㎌] with C2 4.5[㎌] and run it. Does it work well? Which one
works better?
⑩ This time, stop the drive motor and remove Spilt-Phase Motor Graphic Board and
exchange the polarity of maneuver coil. Connect the circuits for rotating direction
exchange experiment as shown in the Figure 6-27.This means that maneuver coil polarity
A, B are exchanged as shown in Figure 6-25.

⑪ Check circuit's connection status and connecting cords are not stuck with each other and
turn ON the Power SupplierDid the rotation direction change?
⑫ Upon completion of the experiment, turn OFF all the switches and removed connected
cords. Discard the components and safely keep them in designated areas.
6. Assessment Questions
