THE PORTRAYAL OF THE CONTENTS OF RUMINATION ON THE
BREAST CANCER SURVIVOR WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED
POSTTRAUMATIC GROWTH IN JAVANESE CULTURE

ABSTRACT
This study aims to describe the contents of rumination on the breast cancer
survivor who have experienced posttraumatic growth during three phases, mainly
living with cancer, living through cancer, and living beyond cancer. This study used
a qualitative approach with phenomenology method. Three breast cancer survivors
who experiencing posttraumatic growth involve in this study. The first subject is a
member of the cancer information and support center in Jakarta, while the second
and third subjects are patients at the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital. Data obtained
through interviews with the subject and observation. Triangulation of perspectives
obtained through interviews with informants. Results showed that there are four
major themes in the contents of rumination on the breast cancer survivor who
experiencing posttraumatic growth, namely, social connectedness, spirituality,
lifestyle, and positive thinking. The whole theme appearing in each phase that is,
living with cancer, living through cancer, and living beyond cancer. However, there
are different sub-theme on every subject. These differences will be discussed further
in this study.

ABSTRAK
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan isi perenungan pada
survivor kanker payudara yang mengalami posttraumatic growth selama tiga fase
kelangsungan hidup yaitu, hidup dengan kanker, hidup melewati kanker, dan hidup
diluar kanker. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode
fenomenologi. Subjek penelitian ini adalah tiga orang survivor kanker payudara
yang mengalami posttraumatic growth. Subjek pertama merupakan anggota dari
cancer information and support center di Jakarta, sedangkan subjek kedua dan
ketiga merupakan pasien di RSPAD Gatot Soebroto. Data diperoleh melalui
wawancara dengan subjek dan observasi. Triangulasi perspektif diperoleh melalui
wawancara dengan informan. Hasil penelitian menujukan bahwa terdapat empat
tema besar dalam isi perenungan survivor kanker payudara yang mengalami
posttraumatic growth yaitu, keterhubungan sosial, spiritualitas, gaya hidup dan
berpikir positif. Seluruh tema tersebut muncul pada setiap fase yakni, hidup dengan
kanker, hidup melewati kanker, dan hidup di luar kanker. Namun, terdapat
perbedaan sub tema pada setiap subjek. Perbedaan ini akan didiskusikan lebih jauh
dalam penelitian ini.
