1. Welding requirements
Not all grades of stainless steel are weld able. Depending on the grade, welding may cause
problems such as intergranular corrosion, high-temperature cracking, and stress corrosion
cracking. If the product requires welding, select a weld able stainless steel grade. Austenitic
stainless steels such as 304L and 347 CE have low carbon levels and can be used for welding.

2. Corrosion resistance

Ferrite and martens tic stainless steels have less nickel and, in some cases, less chromium than
austenitic stainless steels, which are generally more affordable than austenitic stainless steels and
can reduce corrosion resistance. They limit exposure to elements and other corrosive elements,
making them suitable for applications involving stainless steel indoors.
3. Need for machining
Most grades of stainless steel can be machined, but they are very susceptible to hardening. The
machining process must be optimized to operate at speeds that help alleviate this problem, and
the tools used for machining must also be kept in good working order. Similar to carbon steel,
sulphur can be added to improve machinability. Grade 303 is an example of this. Very similar to

4. Heat treatment

consider when choosing stainless steel is strength. The force varies to varying degrees. Martens

PH and 15-5 PH have the highest strength. Austenitic stainless steel ranks second on the strength
