Why We Should Exercise Regularly
Nowadays people live in a society where paying a thousand bucks doesn’t matter in
order to have a better quality of life. People tend to forget that it can be achieved simply by
exercising regularly. The benefits of exercise are more than just losing weight or having a
better shape of body. Here are another reasons that will make you fond of exercising
regularly.
Firstly, exercise reduces stress. Stress is an inevitable part of life. It’s impossible to get
rid of stress, but you can learn to manage it. Exercise and other physical activity produce
endorphins—chemicals in the brain that act as natural painkillers—and also improve the
ability to sleep, which in turn reduces stress.
Secondly, exercise promotes better sleep. The reason why you should have a proper
sleep is because sleep improves the immune system. The immune system will help you fight
off being sick. Early morning exercise can help you reset the sleep cycle by raising body
temperature slightly, then allowing it to drop and trigger sleepiness a few hours later. Just
don't exercise too close to bedtime, or you may be too energized.
Thirdly, exercise improves your memory. The part of the brain that responds strongly to
aerobic exercise is the hippocampus. Experiments in children, adults and the elderly show
that this brain structure grows as people get fitter. The hippocampus is at the core of the
brain’s learning and memory systems, thus explains why exercise boosts your brainpower.
Last but not least, exercise extends life expectancy. It helps maintaining a healthy body
weight, healthy bones, muscles and joints, psychological well-being, and reducing the risk of
certain diseases, including some cancers. There is overwhelming evidence that people who
lead active lifestyles are less likely to suffer from illness and more likely to live longer.
The reasons above are enough for us to change the way we view exercise in order not to
see it as something we ‘have to do’, ‘should do’ or ‘ought to do’ for our health, but as
something that we do regularly because we personally value its positive benefits to our
wellbeing. If exercising is new to you, it’s best to build up your ability gradually. You will
also need support from friends and family to complete your chosen activities.
