SMART SOLAR BATTERY CHARGER FOR PV – APPLICATION
This journal is talking about how to create a smart solar battery charger for photovoltaic
application. This paper also tries to represents a new method of tracking the maximum power point
and the load regulation.
From this paper the creator of this paper tells the reader that the battery that he uses is a
Lead Acid Battery because it is more reliable and it’s mostly used in Automotive, Photovoltaic
and power supplies application. And also, the creator uses 2 integrated circuit to help this project
is finished. The first IC is LT3845A. This ic is used to control the output of Buck converter so the
creator can get the desire output voltage. And the last one is LTC4000-1. This IC is used to control
the charge process of the battery and it included a MPPC (maximum power point controller) when
it’s connected with photovoltaic.
So, when it is comes to the simulation, the architecture of the IC is divided into 2 circuit
that is LT3845A and LTC4000-1. The IC is divided because of the result of the simulation in each
IC. At this point LT3845A is connected with the transmission power from LTC4000-1 after the
IC measure the input current so this test is performed to check the Constant Current phase,
Constant Voltage Phase and Floating stage which is the last phase of the charging process.
The current output of this circuit is 5A that’s make the duration of the test according to this
paper is about 24 Hours long. When the photovoltaic is connected the current and the battery
voltage have stabilized by LTC4000-1. When the current almost reach 5A and the voltage is
reaching 14.1 V it means that CC phase is still on going and it’s going to change to CV Phase as
the voltage keep increasing and the current keep decreasing. After the charger is plugged to the
circuit the battery voltage is in 14.1 V while the current is in 2.36 A. it’s mean that this is a CV
phase when the current value is decreasing till 0.8 A it means that the state of charge is changing
to floating phase and the charger cuts the power through the PMOS. This process of charge can
guarantee the health of the battery because using three stage charging algorithm,.
