Umi Kalsum MKes Ciplukan yang memiliki nama ilmiah Physalis Minima Linn sudah lama dikenal sebagai obat tradisional secara turun-temurun, termasuk di Indonesia. Potensinya sebagai agen antiinflamasi diduga karena pengaruh kandungan pitosterol pada tanaman tersebut. Demikian disampaikan dr. Umi Kalsum, M.Kes pada ujian disertasinya yang mengangkat judul “Efek Antiinflamasi Senyawa Steroid Ekstrak Metanol Physalis Minima L (Ciplukan) Melalui Hambatan Ekspresi Phospholipase A2 Serta Penurunan kadar TNFα dan IL6”, Kamis (10/10). Berdasar pengamatan mikroskopis yang dilakukan dosen Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Brawijaya ini, menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak ciplukan merupakan agen antiinflamasi alami yang bekerja setara dengan aspirin. Dalam penelitian ini, ekstrak ciplukan juga mengakibatkan terjadinya lesi (luka) lambung setelah mencapai dosis tertentu. Namun lebih ringan yang dibandingkan dengan lesi lambung yang disebabkan aspirin. Dikatakan Umi, Ciplukan termasuk Antiinflamasi steroid. Selain memiliki fungsi antiinflamasi, kelompok steroid juga memiliki kemampuan imunosupresan , seperti jenis kortikosteroid yaitu suatu hormon steroid yang dihasilkan oleh kelenjar adrenal. Dan berperan pada banyak sistem fisiologis pada tubuh, inflamasi, kadar elektrolit darah, tingkah laku, metabolisme karbohidrat dan protein. Efek samping penggunaan terapi obat golongan steroid akan timbul pada jangka panjang dan dosis yang besar. Konsep yang perlu dipahami berkaitan dengan efek samping dalam menggunakan obat steroid adalah durasi (masa kerja) obat, dan lama penggunaan obat tersebut. Dalam jangka panjang penggunaannya akan menyebabkan efek samping seperti, hipertensi, ulkus, pendarahan lambung. Walaupun Ekstrak Ciplukan menunjukkan efek lesi lambung yang lebih ringan dibandingkan aspirin. Namun penggunaannya adalam waktu lama tidak diperbolehkan. “Ini membuktikan bahwa tidak berarti obat herbal selalu aman,” ungkapnya. Umi Kalsum MKes A Native Gooseberry (Indonesian: ceplukan) which has a scientific name as Physalis Minima Linn is well known to be used as a traditional medicine hereditarily, especially in Indonesia. Its potential as an anti inflammatory agent is assumed because of the effect of phytosterol in that plant. It is stated by dr. Umi Kalsum, M.Kes., on her dissertation examination entitled “The Effects of Anti Inflammatory of Steroid Compounds from the Methanol Extract of Physalis Minima L (Native Gooseberry) through Phospholipase A2 Expression Barrier as well as the decrease in levels of TNFα and IL6” on Thursday (10/10). Based on microscopic observations which were done by a lecturer of Medical Faculty Universitas Brawijaya. It shows that the extract of native gooseberry is a natural anti inflammatory agent that works equivalent to aspirins. In this research, the extract of native gooseberry also causes the occurance of lesions (sores) on stomach on certain dosses. However, it is lighter than stomach sore which is caused by aspirins. Umi said, a native gooseberry is included as an anti inflammatory steroid. In addition to have the fungtion of inflammatory, it also has the ability of immunosuppressant, a kind of corticosteroid which is a steroid hormon produced by adrenal gland. And it has a lot of advantages on physiological systems in the body, inflammation, blood electrolyte levels, behaviors, carbohydrate and protein metabolism. The side effect of using medical therapy of steroid will come in long terms and a lot of dosses. The concept which is needed to understand related to the side effect in using steroid is the duration to use that medicine. In long term, the use of steroid will cause side effects, such as, hypertention, ulcer, and stomach bleeding. Although the extract of native gooseberry shows that stomach lesion is lighter that aspirins. But, the use of this extract in such a long time is not allowed. “It proves that not all herbals are safe, ” she said.
