ABSTRAK
AoE (ATA over Ethernet) adalah protokol berbasis open source
yang
memungkinkan AoE Initiator (client) dapat mengakses blok storage yang telah
dishare oleh AoE Target(server) melalui jaringan secara langsung. Proses
konfigurasiAoE lebih sederhana dibanding network storage lainnya. Ada sebagian
kalangan yang berminat menggunakan AoE karena AoE dapat diaksessepertihard disk
konvensional (local storage), sehingga penentuan filesystemdapat dilakukan sesuai
dengan kebutuhan. Fungsi RAID juga dapat dilekatkan pada storage AoE untuk
meningkatkan kapasitas, efisiensi dan redundancy.
Untuk mengetahui perbandingan kinerja AoE denganhard diskkonvensional
maka perlu dilakukan pengujian. AoE dirancang pada ubuntu 12.10 dengan
menggunakan vblade untuk server dan aoetools untuk client. Parameter yang
digunakan dalam pengujian adalah kecepatan read dan write. Pengujian dilakukan
dengan proses copy menggunakan beberapa jenis file.
Dari pengujian tersebut dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa storage konvensional
memiliki kecepatan read dan write yang lebih tinggi dari storage AoE. Namun
dengan pemilihan infrastruktur yang tepat, kecepatan storage AoE bisa ditingkatkan.
Ada beberapa faktor yang mempengaruhi kinerja AoE antara lain: factor jumlah
server penyedia, yang kedua faktor infrastruktur jaringan yang digunakan, dan yang
ketiga adalah faktor kemampuan hard disk AoE Initiator (client).

ABSTRACT
AoE (ATA over Ethernet) is a protocol with basic open source that probable
AoE Initiator (client) can access storage block that has shared by AoE Target (server)
within the network directly. The process of AoE configuration are more simple than
the other network storage. There are many people use AoE because AoE can be
accesses like the local storage, so that can determine the filesystem by the need. The
RAID function can also put on the AoE storage for increase capacity, eficient, and
redundancy.
If we compare the work of AoE with the conventional hard disk so it need to
be tested. AoE designed in ubuntu 12.10 with vblade for server and aoetools for
client. The parameter that we use to test is the speed of read and write.In this thesis,
the test can do with the copy process by many kinds of file.
The conclution of the test is that conventional storage has the rapid read and
write that higher than the AoE's storage. There are many factors that affect AoE's
works. The first is the amount of available server factor, the second is the used of
network infrastructure, and the third is the abbility of AoE's Initiator hard disk.
