Kesimpulan: Indeks massa tubuh mempengaruhi secara signifikan terhadap tekanan darah anak usia Sekolah Dasar Brengosan kelas 4 dan 5 Kata kunci: Indeks massa tubuh, tekanan darah, anak usia sekolah dasar x THE CORRELATION BETWEEN BODY MASS INDEX AND THE BLOOD PRESSURE OF 4TH AND 5TH GRADE BRENGOSAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS Reza Fahlevi, Nurlaili Muzayyanah, MTS Darmawan ABSTRACT Background: Body mass index (BMI) is one of the ways to measures propotional body size in children. Body mass index correlates with the fat tissue and total body fat. The body mass index in a child will increase if the energy or callories are over consumed daily and there is no balance with the daily activities. Some research have shown that the increase of body mass index in children correlates with the increase of their blood pressure. Objective: This study was aimed to determine whether there is a correlation between body mass index and the blood pressure of the 4th and 5th grade Brengosan elementary school students. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, analytic observational/nonexperimental study. The study was conducted to the 4th and 5th grade Brengosan Yogyakarta State elementary school students.Their weights and heights were measured and their blood pressures were also measured. The distribution tables were used in univariate analysis while chi-square test was used in bivariate analysis. Results: 50 subjects were included in the analysis and none of the students were in the exclusion criterias. Statistical analysis showed the value of 95 % Confidence Interval (95 % CI) was 1.613-69.267, the p-value (p < 0.05) was 0.017 and Prevalence Ratio (PR) was 10.571, which means there was a correlation between body mass index and the blood pressure of 4th and 5th grade Brengosan elementary school students. Conclusion: Body mass index correlates with the blood pressure of 4th and 5th grade Brengosan elementary school students Keywords: Body mass index, blood pressure, 4th and 5th grade elementary school students xi
