Grammar focus (Penjelasan Tata Bahasa)
“Direct Speech/ Kalimat langsung” adalah suatu cara untuk menceritakan seseorang apa
yang orang lain katakana dengan menggunakan tanda kutip pada kalimat yang diucapkan orang
tersebut, sedangkan “Reported Speech/ Kalimat tidak langsung” adalah ketika kamu
menceritakan apa yang dikatakan orang lain dengan menggunakan kata -katamu sendiri.
E.g.) Direct Speech: (Kalimat langsung:)
He said, “I’m going to school tomorrow.”
(Dia berkata,”Saya akan pergi ke sekolah besok.”)
Reported Speech: (Kalimat tidak langsung:)
He said he was going to school the next day.
(Dia berkata dia akan pergi ke sekolah keesokan hari.)
Ketika kita sedang mengubah kalimat langsung menjadi tidak langsung kita harus
memastikan bahwa kita mengubah kata ganti, bentuk kata kerja, waktu dan tempat.
Kita menggunakan kata “menceritakan” atau “mengatakan” sebagai bentuk kata kerja
kalimat tidak langsung/ reporting verbs. Kata kerja kalimat tidak langsung yang sama sering
digunakan ketika mengubah kalimat langsung menjadi tidak langsung, kecuali untuk bentuk
sebagai berikut:
He said to me, ”I love you.” (Dia berkata padaku, ”Aku mencintaimu.”)
He told me he loves me. (Dia berkata padaku dia mencintaiku.)
Ketika kata kerja kalimat tidak langsung di Kalimat Langsung adalah “said to”, maka akan
berubah menjadi “told” dalam kalimat tidak langsung, sedangkan “said” tetap dengan kata
yang sama.
Ketika kata kerja kalimat tidak langsung ada dalam bentuk waktu (“says”, “tells”),
maka kata kerja di kalimat tidak langsung ada dalam bentuk waktu yang sama.

1) She said, “I miss you”.
